April 2010 Ė Cowgrove 3.8 miles Time Trial

Blast from the past, Ross Kirkpatrick claims comeback win.

The long awaited return to a revised summer time trial through Cowgrove, and it was the summer time trial in more than just name as, having endured some wretched weather over the past couple of months we ran in near perfect conditions and the best weather since, well, last summer! The route itself has improved too, as it now includes that long straight through the beautiful avenue of trees at Pamphill.

Moving on to the racers, there were two blasts from the past. Itís been months since we have seen Ross Kirkpatrick at a Thursday session and his return was a glorious one, comfortably heading the field by almost a minute. Second over the line was the return of the native, Kelly Nugent, down to see friends and family over Easter. The first time we have seen her since she moved for work to London, she was flying. Jeff Hinsley was next in, a bit of a dark horse who has been struggling a little bit with niggly injuries over the winter but really back on song. We had two time trial debutants Mike Holborne and Claire Scammell both of them gave good accounts of themselves and have now notched their benchmarks.

No doubt the conditions played a part, but there were many good performances, the Hutchings family are all moving in the right direction and Andrew Olden is in fine form too, as he approaches his marathon.

For outright speed Andy McDonald raised the bar, running the course in a blistering 23:14. In his wake are Jerry Shield, Anthony Clark and Roy Long who all posted sub-24 minute times. Ross was the next quickest with, just a little further back, David Long, Andrew Olden, Callum Kennedy and Andy Porter. With a few others, who didnít compete in April, to add to the mix itís going to be interesting watching this battle to see who can post the fastest time over this course by the end of the year.

It wasnít all good news however, as Maddy had targeted this time trial for a comeback. Unfortunately the tendonitis in her feet didnít allow her to complete. She is finding the long road to recovery interminable, having been struggling since the end of last year. Just a little more patience is required in order to recover completely.

Also out on the circuit on time trial night was Tim Box who ran an unhandicapped time of 33:23.

Our timekeepers did a great job, thank you to Phil Burgess, Barbara Frampton, Julie Gosling, Elaine Long and Jon Tice. Full results for the time trial were:
