Decathlon Dave Ė 30 & 31 July 2016

Peter Impett reports from Birmingham

Wimborne AC athlete and coach Dave Pearson completed a weekendís very hard work with a silver medal in the British Masters Athletic Federation Championships at Birmingham.  Dave clocked a total of 5478 - a points personal best in the M45 category.

Dave started brightly with a second placed 12.71 100 metres and repeated the placing with a 5m22 long jump.  A fifth paced shot and 7m42 brought his scoring average down and highlighted the need for an improvement in Daveís throwing skills.  Dave redeemed the position with a second placed seasonís best in the high jump on 1m61 and in the 400 on 59.71.

Day two started well with a personal best win in the high hurdles in 18.4 but a sixth placed discus took the shine off his winning 3m80 in the pole vault.  The javelin almost produced a personal best at 33m92 but could only manage a fourth place.  Dave then had to track Tauntonís Lee Parrott and run a third placed 5.56.09 for the 1500 in his least favourite event.
