Community recognition for WAC’s Richard Nunn

Wimborne AC’s long-standing treasurer and membership secretary has recently received recognition for his work in the community … and not just for his work for the athletics club.  The club’s origins go back to 1984 when it was formed as the Allendale Athletic Club.  Richard is the only individual to have served an unbroken tenure on the committee (in a variety of jobs) since those earliest days … 32 years of service to WAC and counting!

He is the club’s main source of constitutional advice and carries through his athletic interests to county level where he is treasurer of Dorset County Athletic Association.  Richard also organises the annual two day Dorset County Track & Field Championships.  He is a qualified timekeeper and he has logged hundreds of events over the years in this capacity at track meetings, road and cross-country races.  It is difficult to estimate how much time he has given to athletics and road running over the past 30-odd years.

… and then there is Wimborne in Bloom!  Richard was drawn to this by his wife Carole … he became treasurer.  When Carole passed away he honoured her memory by throwing himself into this work.  He went on to become chairman of the organisation and spends many hours representing Wimborne in Bloom.  This includes working in schools on poetry, art and gardening competitions, negotiating with local authorities, trade organisations and individuals.  To cap it all Richard has also been elected as a town councillor in Wimborne.
