The county championships
for Indoor Sportshall took place at Canford School on Saturday 24th
January 2009 and the Wimborne Athletes that competed came away with a
number of podium (1st, 2nd or 3rd)
performances.
Under 11s
In the Sportshall league
there is no separate age category for the under 11s, so until the county
championships they have to compete with the under 13s. Wimborne had a
large number of athletes in the under 11 age group and they all
performed really well on Saturday. Pick of the performances were:
County Champions
Harry George (4 Lap)
Jordan Carter (Vertical Jump)
County Silver
Jordan Carter (2 Lap)
Harry George (Speed Bounce)
Alfie Beddow, Jordan Carter, Matt Fall, Harry George (Circuit Relay)
Phoebe O’Mahoney (Vertical Jump)
County Bronze
Matt Fall (4 Lap)
Kelly O’Mahoney (Long Jump)
Kelly O’Mahoney (6 Lap (U13 Event))
Abbie Hine, Hope Gough, Pippa Hine, Phoebe O’Mahoney (Circuit Relay)
Under 13s
We were a bit sparse in
the under 13 age category, but it was a case of quality over quantity as
our athletes performances showed. Again the best performances are listed
below:
County Champions
Mathew Curtis (High Jump)
Sam Lucas (Vertical Jump)
Abbie Card (High Jump)
County Bronze
Mathew Curtis (2 Lap)
Liam Winton, Sam Neill, Sam Lucas, Mathew Curtis (4x2 Lap Relay)
Abbie Card (2 Lap)
TC Hardy (Triple Jump)
Under 15s
Finally we come to the
under 15 age group. Wimborne fielded no boys in this age group, however
the Wimborne flag was held high by Hannah Winton in the girls
competition:
County Champion
Hannah Winton (Long Jump)
County Silver
Hannah Winton (2 Lap)
Hannah Winton (Shot Putt)
Overall Hannah’s
performances placed her in 3rd place in the Grand Prix
competition – a great performance in her first year in this age group.
Well done to all our
athletes that competed, and a big thanks to all the parents (taxi
drivers) for their support and encouragement.
Also good luck to all the
Wimborne athletes that, as a result of their performances in both the
league and the county championships, have been selected to represent
Dorset in the Regional Sportshall Finals in Torbay.
