We had four athletes
competing at the Combined Events Championships held at Millfield School
in Somerset last weekend. The event includes championships for both
Dorset and Somerset, and it was sad to see how few athletes were
competing for the Dorset Championship in comparison with Somerset.
That said our athletes
performed very well coming away with a string of PB performances.
Wimborne had three boys
competing on the Saturday.
Adam Collins was in the
minor boys Quadrathlon (100m, Shot Putt, Long Jump and 800m). Adam did
PBs in all but the 800m finishing 7th out of 35 athletes, but
more importantly, the 1st Dorset athlete and therefore Dorset
County Champion!
Matt Curtis and Jack Snook
were in the Junior boys Pentathlon (80m Hurdles, Shot Putt, Long Jump,
High Jump and 800m).
Matt put in 3 PB
performances (80m Hurdles, Shot Putt and 800m) and achieved 9th
place overall and 3rd in the Dorset Championships. This bodes
well for next year when Matt will be in the same age group again.
Jack also put in some fine
performances – achieving PBs in all 5 events. He finished the
competition just behind Matt in 10th place overall and 4th
in the Dorset Championships. We suggest that he breaks his fingers more
often if this is the result!
Sunday saw the Junior
Girls Pentathlon take place. Hannah Winton was our representative in
this competition and came away with PBs in the Hurdles, 800m and Shot
Putt. Overall Hannah finished 10th and was 3rd in
the Dorset Championships.
These were some great
performances so early in the season, so it will be interesting to see
how much further these athletes can improve over the next couple of
months.
Well done everyone.
