English Schools Birmingham - 13/14 July 2018 - Grace wins bronze

The English Schools Track and Field Championships at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham is the top competition for young athletes and is rumoured to be the fourth largest event of its kind in the world in terms of the number of participants.  This year seven Wimborne AC based athletes made the trip and Grace Copeland came home with a much prized bronze medal in the Senior Girls 3000 metres recording a time of 9.44.11.

This was Grace’s – a Queen Elizabeth’s School pupil fifth visit to the Championships.  In honour of her international selections Grace brought the English Schools banner in to the stadium for the march past.  Grace was the only Dorset athlete to win a medal this year.

Former QE student Charlotte Ayton was fifth in the Senior Girls Long jump just one centimetre down on her personal best at 5m59.

Abbie Lovering also of Queen Elizabeth’s can count herself unlucky that having achieved national standard she was the only one at that level to miss out on the final of the Intermediate Girls 300 metres hurdles timed at 44.73.  Abbie still has a year to go in that age group.

Abbie White of Lytchett Minster School recorded a personal best for her seventh place in the Inter Girls Hammer 52.16 metres and there were fine performances from Bethan Burley ( Canford), Ben Butcher (Poole Grammar) and Daisy Baker.
