February 2011 – Willett 5k Time
Trial
Andy Olden, takes it by some
margin.
It had been a miserable day, but
by the evening of the time trial conditions, though still a little damp,
were good for running in. This was reflected in the overall times of the
group when compared to last month. Two runners who had particularly
difficult runs on their last outings were Andy Olden and Daryl Davies.
With both back on form they made a nonsense of the handicaps they were
awarded and stormed to convincing first and second places. There was an
impressive performance too from Laurence Hegan – 25:32 in January down
to 22:09 in February.
We had two runners who went
sub-20 minutes. Anthony Clark was fastest man on the night, and time
trial debutant Baz Barry. Baz was awarded a harsh handicap, hence he
finished near the top of the timings but only 14th in the
rankings. Now Baz has a score on the board his handicap next month will
have a little less guessing and a little more science about it!
Not only was Lynn Hutchings
first lady home in 9th place (7th best time), but
she also ran faster than most of the men. There is more than a little
rivalry in the Hutchings family at the moment, with Lynn fastest and
John and Gerry not so very far behind.
