WAC medals haul at Ferndown Rotary 2.5, 5 & 10ks 21

The Ferndown Rotary Club
run is a race which is not part of any league for cross-country or
roadrunning. It was held at Avon Heath County Park which is near
Ringwood. The terrain is undulating.
The first race was a 2.5k
race, we had two runners in this event Piers and Grace Copeland. From
the start Piers battled with Joe Halliwell, who trained with us a while
back. Grace slotted into third place from the start. As the race
progressed the gap became bigger between Piers and Joe, while Grace was
eventually caught by two other boys in the race. At the finish Piers
finished first. Grace finished fifth overall and first girl.

The next races were the
5k and 10k, they started together with the 5k as one lap, and the 10k
two laps. In the 5k we had three runners - Jordan Symington, Sharon
Hutchings and Gerry Hutchings. In the 5k and 10k the over-13s ran with
the seniors. Jordan ran very well to finish in fifth place with Gerry
finishing as seventh man in. In the womans race Sharon had a brilliant
win, her closest rival was 1 minute 20 seconds behind.
Those of us who did the
10k had another lap to do. We had six runners in this event - Callum
Kennedy, Ian Kennedy, Paul Mallet and Rich House for the men and Lynn
Hutchings and Julie Mead for the women. I was the first WACer in and it
was my first 10km (I finished second). The second, third and fourth
Wimborne runners came in quick succession. Next was Ian Kennedy, then
Paul Mallet two seconds back, and Lynn Hutchings just 16 seconds later.
Lynn ran superbly to be the second place lady and she did a PB even
though the course wasnt ideal for fast times. Julie was next to come
in, then Rich who ran alongside his mate, so thats why his time wasnt
as quick as usual, but his mate had the nerve to outsprint him at the
finish line!
