Abbie and Holly with their Hampshire League medals

‘We take our running very seriously, but never forget to have fun too! Abbie Lovering

Well done to all those who went to Dibden Inclosure for the last race of the Hampshire League cross-country season. A new venue for most runners, but still we had lots of great results in every race we took part in. The red army were a little short in numbers this week with around 20 runners but we more than made up for this in the performances. We had the usual mix of some old and new faces running, plus our fantastic team of coaches headed up by Ian and supporters (thanks guys it really helps us give that bit extra when you pop up all over the course and makes a few places each race). The weather was great for running and the course very flat and fast, the start was particularly fast for 1k (i.e. about 400m as Ian would say).

The first race was u11 girls, in this race we had one Wimborne runner. Alana Fairchild 34th had a great experience as she was running at this level for the first time. The next race up was u11 boys we also had one runner, Thomas Jeffery 28th,, he ahs completed a hat-trick of Hampshire League races, well done Thomas. Well done too all the other u11s who competed this season, I hope you enjoyed the racing as much as me and hope to see you next year.

HERE COME THE GIRLS….the next race was u13 girls, we had a full team running and they were on great form again. The team headed up by Abbie Lovering 2nd who ran another brilliant race, equalling her best Hampshire League result, Holly Nixon 5th continued her great form this year with another great run and position, Ella Jeffery 34th ran an excellent race and made sure the team scored again.  Abbie and Holly both received Hampshire League medals for coming 3rd and 6th in the aggregate scores, this is a fantastic achievement, as not too many athletes from Wimborne AC have achieved this. Total runners 55.

After that, came the u13 boys, Wimborne had six runners.  The team was led home by me [Charlie]. I had a good run coming in 12th, next in was Josh Jack 22nd who is coming back to form and had his best run of the season. Tom Fuller 25th has had a brilliant first year in the Hampshire League and claimed the final team place on the day. Next came in Jack Moss-Willcox 35th,  showing typical  determination as he was wearing trainers, followed in by Ollie Rawles 42nd and Joe Healey 48th, well done all you guys. Total runners 58.

Next race was the u15 girls, Wimborne had another fantastic team result Hannah Slater 9th was first in with another great run, followed closely by Caitlin Rogers 11th who has really improved this year. Amy Mercer 27th was in next in with a great run and scoring for the team. Making up the rest of the runners and having solid runs were Izzie Kingswell-Farr 44th, Hannah Fairchild 45th and Elise Gill 48th. It was great to see Beth K-F there taking photos and supporting the runners after her Parliament Hill spiking. The u15 girls have run brilliantly this year and this has been rewarded with a third place overall for the year, great work girls.  Total runners on the day, 48, and WAC 3rd placed team.

The next race was the u15 boys, we only had one runner in the race but boy did he deliver, take a bow Michael Johnson, 5th , running his best Hampshire League race so far, what a performance. Total runners 39

Next up was the u17 girls, again we didn’t have enough for a team but the excellent and ever-dependable Lucy Ballam, 5th, had another smashing race and is still in this age group next year. Well done Lucy! Total runners 25.

The last race of the day was as usual the u20/senior men, Ryan Walbridge led home the team, 5th u20 and 38th overall, and even claimed there was a hill at the far end of the course!  Steve Wyatt was in next – 73rd, followed in closely by Jerry Shield – 75th, Pete Kingswell-Farr – 117th, ran another good race. The senior team won Division 3 and will be promoted next year, great work guys. Total runners 165.

Again, well done everybody who ran and thanks for the support, what a great year for WAC.  That’s all folks with regard to league races…see you all next season!!

PS A quick aside, a Poole AC parent who knows Charlie was surprised to see Charlie warming up as he thought he wasn’t running this race and asked him, ‘Why are you running? Charlie answered that if he completed all the Wessex and Hampshire League races he’d get a ‘Super Fertility Award!’  Possibly explains the number of senior men we currently have running!!  [Richard, Charlie’s dad]

PPS I think Charlie means ‘Super Fidelity Award’. [Ian]
