Wimborne AC have two called up for Internationals

Peter Impett reports

Wimborne Athletic Club fielded two athletes in England vests in the weekend of the 27/28th January 2018 for the first time in the club's history.

Piers Copeland was third in the Elan Miting indoors in Bratislava in the Slovak Republic. His time in the 1500 metres of 3.56.35 was slower than he recorded at an indoor meeting in Cardiff earlier this month partly because he could not make up ground on the second placed runner in the final lap. Piers had had an injury plagued 2017 season with very little competition but seems to have come back much stronger in 2018 and will surely add more England vests to his name.

Meanwhile high jumper Ryan Webb equalled his seasons best 2m 12 in the prestigious Hustopecszako Skiatain meeting at Hustopec in the Czech Republic. This is an indoor high jump festival attracting some of the best jumpers in Europe and Ryan was selected as part of the England party.  Ryan finished fifth in his pool on his second visit to this event.  Pegged back by the  one failure at 2m09, his final 2m12 jump would have given him third place behind Matus Bubenik who cleared a personal best 2m30 on return from injury and Lukas Beer of the Slovakian Republic. The event gave Ryan an early season opportunity to test his new run up and 2m20 must surely come in 2018.
