Our second time at this
venue brought a beautiful sunny day, but very cold. The course is pretty
well flat, but for whatever reason it seems tougher than it at first
appears. WAC were one of the best represented teams at Langport, and the
timing of the race between Christmas and New Year led to smaller fields
in the races than usual. With Elliott Miller running for the first time
we fielded a complete team in the under-11s race as he supported Kelly
Snook and Leanne Symington. Sharon Hutchings has been running with real
confidence since Kings Park, and this race was her best so far. She was
7th last time out in the Wessex League and this great result
was achieved even though she had to double-back on the course because of
a not very clearly marked route where she quickly regained the place
that she dropped.
Ross Kirkpatrick made his
debut for WAC and led the team home with Jack Snook and Callum Kennedy
in support to bring in the team score. Well done to Maddy Vaughan-Johncey
who recorded her first ever WAC cross-country win in the under-17s.
Laura Harvey also had a very good race and between them they ensured
that Wimborne were first team in that age group.
In the senior ladies race
there was a terrific struggle to see who was top WACer between Nicki Roe
and Kirsty Harvey. This time it was Nicki who came out on top. They were
well supported by Lyn Hutchings and Annemarie Pearson.
Graham Whiffen led the men
home with Guy Thompson in close attendance. A little further down the
field we had a group of red shirts finish one behind the other.
