March 2010 – Willett Arms 4 mile Time Trial

David Long sets new course record as Roy Long claims his first time trial win.

This was our last time trial to the Willett Arms before reverting to the summer Cowgrove route next month.  It was great to sign off the winter TTs with some fine performances.  Of the 22 trialists taking part we had three debutants – Steve Headley, Paula Miles and Anne Osland. Roy Long’s improving form continues at a fair pace, gaining just shy of two minutes in the past month. He had to work hard to lift the trophy as there were also superb gains from Julie Gosling and Wendy Kennedy who also both found around two minutes.

The most impressive performance of the night came from David Long who was one of two runners who set off with biggest handicap (a whopping 16.5 minutes). David recorded a time of 23:49 – a new course record for the Willett Arms route. This was an improvement of 45 seconds on the time he did last month and was enough to see him cross the line in 7^th place on our handicapping system. An outstanding performance.
