Mercer reports from Somerset
At the weekend Ben
Butcher, Curtis Ormerod-Taylor, Robert Hughes and I all went to
Millfield for the Somerset and Dorset schools multi-events. On
Saturday the weather was a bit cold but mostly fine, with everyone
making a great start on their events. We watched Ben run a fantastic
hurdles race amongst a very strong field of competitors.
Sunday was a
different story: it was windy and freezing all day with quite a lot
of rain throughout the day. Luckily we had seen the weather forecast
and dashed off to Clarks Village to buy a tent on Saturday evening.
Not sure shocking pink is everyone's favourite colour for a tent, but
at least we'll find it easily round the track.
For me, the javelin
was the trickiest event as it was then that the skies opened and it
was wet and windy. The officials took their lives in their hands as
we threw our javelins into the wind and waited to see where and which
way they would land.
Despite the weather
we all made a sterling effort and came out with some great results.
Ben was under 15 boys County Champion, Curtis and I were under 17
County Champions and Robert was the silver medallist for Dorset in his
age group. Overall a great event and a great result for WAC and
