Winter Time Trial – 3 November 2011

Rachel – times and report.
Of
the 14 runners who ran in October over the inaugural revised winter time
trial route via Merley Ways, seven returned and were amongst our 20 this
time. Bizarrely of those seven only one, Helen Linley, went quicker than
last time out. Well done Helen, she ‘found’ almost a minute. Why the
other times were slower is an interesting one. Was it because of the
conditions on the night? Perhaps it was because nobody cut off Mickey
Mouse’s ears!
With
this being only the second time the revised winter time trial route has
been used, the course record set by Adam Neil last month sat there like
an ‘Aunt Sally’ just begging be to knocked over! Callum Kennedy duly
obliged and no doubt the course record has plenty more to be chipped off
it just yet. Jerry Shield also went 30 seconds inside the old record.
There
were two new names on the time sheets, but only one new face. Jools
James (née Maskell) returned from her honeymoon to record a great run
and the fastest ladies’ time of the night. Sharon Hutchings was the
other new name. This gives us our fourth Hutchings family member to take
part in the time trial – that’s a record in itself. On Sharon’s debut
she recorded a time that was only 10 seconds down on time trial winner
Rachel Gladdis (she also won In October), although due to different
handicaps they were some distance apart on the road. It won’t be long
before Sharon is providing the stiffest test to mum Lynn for the fastest
ladies’ time. On this occasion Lynn wasn’t racing, but just guiding
Sharon around the course on her debut.
