Generation landslide, youngsters take
all three podium places.
On an evening when the weather looked
far from promising, there was a terrific turnout for the time trial. We
have never seen so many runners make their time trial debuts in a single
night. Iain Donnelly, Carol Howe, James Hughes, Callum Kennedy, Jill
Killinger, David Long, Roy Long, Liz McCormick, Jess Stephen and Maggie
Walton all recorded their first times over the route. With so many new
runners, we sent out a number of pilot runners, who didn’t record times,
but made sure our newcomers were OK. All this made the
timekeepers/recorders jobs very interesting!
This time trial was also remarkable for
the injection of youth into the field. The youngest person to have taken
part in a time trial previously had been Ross Kirkpatrick (14), Callum
Kennedy and David Long (both 14) ran, but our new record holder is James
Hughes who is just 10 years old. So with James, Callum and David all
making a little bit of history before the stopwatch even started they
then proceeded to come in first, second and third! James was piloted
around the course by his dad, Robin, while Callum and David (who had
both been given a 9 minute handicap) gave their pilots, Craig Dixon and
Jerry Shield, a handy workout.
Iain Donnelly made a fantastic debut
and he was the first of the seniors to register a time. The time trial
trophy is awarded to the first runner home who has run with a calculated
(rather than estimated) handicap. Effectively this means that no one can
take the trophy on their debut. The winner of the trophy this month was
flying Andy Horsley. Andy improved his time by just over two minutes.
Although the youngsters stole the show
many of the other debutants recorded excellent results too. The fastest
actual time recorded on the night went to Anthony Clark he clocked 23:55
and the fastest time for the ladies was a storming 28:37 from Annie
Dougall.
Our timekeepers/recorders on the night
were Jeff Hinsley, Clalre Newby and Terry Simms they did a fantastic
job. Full results for the time trial were:
