November Time Trial 2013 – The night the Romans came!

Mike Hilborne reports.

The November time trial took place on a cool crisp evening, with a very healthy 25 runners. Thanks to everyone for their patience at the start as we sifted through previous results, both from last month’s race and from the summer series of time trials. As ever, the ‘officials’ enjoyed a largely running-related chat while awaiting the returning runners. However, on this occasion two young, physically toned male specimens, ‘clad’ in no more than Roman helmets and shorts (we’ll take as read that they had running shoes) jogged by. This sent Wendy briefly off to her car to calm down, although there were rumours she was searching for a prototype of the eagerly awaited Wimborne Road Runners’ ‘business’ card ready for the Romans’ return.

Steve kindly ran with Jem to show him the route, while Gerry did the same with Patricia. Another debutante along with Patricia was Andrew McDonald. Daryl and Dave both ran with handicaps, but without wishing to be counted in the scoring. Patricia and Andrew, being new to the time trial were not included in the final reckoning, while Elliott was likewise not yet in reckoning for the podium.

Daryl appeared first from the darkness, with a significant gap and looking very pleased with running 21:43, having not run a time trial for a while.  Patricia and Gerry arrived next, followed just under a minute later by Andy O, Andy therefore coming a well-deserved first on the night.

The rest of the field then followed in reasonably quick succession, at one point 14 people covering two minutes of time. John H broke the line after Andy. Well done to Elliott, who ran well and came in next after a good run, just ahead of John S, who filled the third place slot in the official results.

Wendy and Paul were eagle-eyed in ensuring everyone in the large field set off at the appropriate time and helped tally the results afterwards. Well done everyone. On to the year’s final time trial next month, with most of us now having an up-to-date winter time.
