Road Running Leagues, Competitions and Performances

Wimborne AC take part in a number of leagues throughout the year, with both team and individual competitions. These include:

The Dorset Road Race League
The Dorset County Championships
Poole Runners Winter series
Poole Runners Summer series

Wimborne AC take part in the Dorset Road Race League (RRL). There are now 12 races per year. Expect 6 shortish races (less than 10 miles), 5 races of 10 miles / half marathons and one long race.

They also try (with varying success) to spread them across the county and across the whole year. The men and ladies compete as separate teams rather than a mixed team. For a league event we need 5 men to make up a men's team but only 3 ladies to make up a team. The overall team scores at the end of the season are based on the best 7 out of 12 races.

The Dorset RRL is split into two divisions with the top 7 menís and womenís team forming the top divisions and the other teams forming Division 2. Wimborne AC are in the top flight for both men and women. There will be promotion and relegation at the end of the year with Division 1ís bottom club being replaced by the Division 2 champions.

Hereís how we have done in previous years.

Year 2014 2013 2012 2011 2010 2009 2008 2007 2006 2005
Men 6 2 3 3 4 3 5 6 6 3
Ladies 4 4 5 4 5 6 8 10 9 9

Year 2004 2003 2002 2001 2000 1999 1998 1997 1996 1995
Men 8 7 6 5 6 6 9 9 10 10
Ladies 9 10 9 8 6 7 4 4 4 4

There's also a league for individuals based on the same 12 races and again the final positions are based on the best 7 out of the possible 12 races. That means if you want to do well in the league you have to finish at least 7 of the races. Also you will need to finish in all 12 races to win a Fidelity Award.
