Southern Women’s League, Oxford 25 April 2009
A small band of Wimborne
and Poole athletes ventured off to Oxford for the first of the Southern
Women’s League matches on Saturday competing as the composite Team
Dorset.
It was great to see our
World Record Holder (see news item from last year) Roz Hutton out
competing in all the throws (Shot Putt, Discus & Javelin). Lynn
Hutchings continued her journey on the track, following up last week’s
5000m debut with a first time out over 3000m.
Joining Roz and Lynn in
the senior ranks were Maddy V-J and Ellis Marples. Ellis leapt a good
1.50m to win the High Jump, and Maddy had a fine debut run to win the
400m Hurdles.
In the under 15 age
category we had Alex V-J and Sharon Hutchings competing. Alex is
continuing to improve after a long lay off with PB performances in High
Jump and Shot Putt, and close to her PB in 800m. Sharon had her first
run over 800m and a first attempt at Shot Putt (both PBs by default).
Sharon also improved on last week’s long jump – a PB by rights!
Overall, despite only
having a small team, they managed to come 3rd overall out of
7 teams – brilliant effort! Well done.
We could do with more
athletes for the next fixture in this league to ensure we keep up this
momentum so make sure the date (Saturday 30th May) is in your
diaries.
