Wessex League Race 2  – 27 November – Salisbury

Our best ever XC results (yet). Scooter reports.

After the first Wessex League at Canford (where we had a home advantage), Wimborne AC took on the next challenge, at Salisbury. Everyone ran excellently and we achieved our best results in any cross-county league yet! We were the top club in the junior races.

To start the day we had the under-17 men, senior women and senior men racing together. In the under-17 men we had an outstanding result, Callum Kennedy managed to gain 1st place with a time of 18:03. Jack Guy came in finishing 6th!  In the under-17s you only need to have two runners to register a team score – Callum and Jack took the team prize by the narrowest of margins from Bournemouth AC. Moving on to the senior women which involved Lynn Hutchings and Paula Hine who both had great runs, Lynn coming in 4th and Paula 8th.  Loads of senior men came along and their results made Wimborne 3rd team on the day. This really put Wimborne on a high. Here are the results regarding Wimborne:

Under-17 Men (8 finishers) (1st team)

1 – Callum Kennedy – 18:03
6 – Jack Guy – 21:18

Senior Women (11 finishers)

8 – Paula Hine – 28:40

Senior Men (37 finishers) (Wimborne 3rd team)

11 – Mark Copeland – 29:34
17 – Iain Donnelly – 30:56

21 – Ian Kennedy – 32:07

26 – Andy Olden – 33:28
28 – Gerry Hutchings – 33:32
30 – Simon Bourne – 34:16
33 – Pete Kingswell-Farr – 35:33

Straight after that race the under-11s were ready to run. Here we had Max Meadwell rocketing into 5th place, and Freddie Williams who came in at 16th,  Bethanie and Isabelle Kingswell-Farr taking  46th and 48th. Every one of our under-11s recorded their highest-ever finishing positions.

5 – Max Meadwell – 6:39
16 – Freddie Williams – 6:59
46 – Bethanie Kingswell-Farr – 8:18
48 – Isabelle Kingswell-Farr – 8:28

Our under-13s have been running superbly this season, both the boys and girls achieved 1st place teams at Salisbury. We had three girl runners from Wimborne: Grace Copeland 2nd with a time of 11.57, Maddie Williams 4th and Pippa Hine 8th. Pier Copeland achieved first place for the boys with a time of 11.03 and then just 22 seconds later another Wimborne runner came in finishing second place (Tom Bourne). Ryan Long managed 5th place (his best yet) giving Wimborne a clear team victory.

Maddie Williams – still with plenty to do

Under-13 Girls (12 finishers) – 1st team

2 – Grace Copeland – 11:57
4 – Maddie Williams – 13:36
8 – Pippa Hine – 14:40

Under-13 Boys (9 finishers) – 1st team

1 – Piers Copeland – 11:03
2 – Tom Bourne – 11:25
5 – Ryan Long – 12:48

The last, but not least, race was the under 15s. Both our girls and boys did exceptionally well, the girls achieving 1st in the teams.  Sharon Hutchings and Abbie Hine took 1st and 2nd place followed by Chloe Morris who came 5th. Charlotte Bourne wasn’t far from Chloe and came in 7th place with Ella Hearne coming in soon after Charlotte and then me.  For the under-15 boys, as there wasn’t a full team, it was all down to Ryan Walbridge and Jordan Symington who just like everyone else went out there with a bang. Ryan achieved 1st with Jordan not far behind on 3rd place. Overall, everybody did a great job out there. Bring on the next Wessex league race, quite a long wait – the mighty Ham Hill on 22 January – see you there.
