National Schools XC Championships, Nottingham – 19 March

We set of at 7:02 in the
morning for the English Schools Cross-Country Championships at
Nottingham on 19th March. It started as a cold, frosty, foggy
morning and gradually turned into a glorious day at a glorious park with
a massive, beautiful house and lots of deer.
This was Ryan’s second
time and Abbie’s first time at this event. When we got there, we walked
the course with Bobbie (the dog). The course was very firm underfoot and
wide. Once finishing the walk, we were looking for the Dorset team base.
After finding the Dorset team, we changed into 9mm spikes, to suit the
conditions, and got warmed up ready for our races!
Once warmed up, Ryan set
off into the starting pens. The gun went off and the race began, 4km to
go. The course for Ryan’s race was two big laps with a gentle slope
leading up to a short but steep hill, before dropping around a bend down
towards the finish line, which was located at the bottom of the steep
Soon after, it was Abbie’s
race. She started off slowly, as she was at the back of the pen, but
finished strongly on the hill, overtaking several runners on the
Ryan came 163rd
out of 331 and was third Dorset – Abbie was 295th out of 347
and was the 7th Dorset runner in.
