WACers play their part as Team Dorset stay up 10 August 2013

Peter Impett reports from the Southern League at Ashdown.

Wimborne athletes did their share of the work to lift Team Dorset seniors to a position of safety in the Southern Athletics League on Saturday. Having won the first fixture at Braunton, a run of poor results meant that the team needed a good result and they made good use of home advantage in the match at Ashdown.

Ronnie de Bique did some good work winning the 400 hurdles in 59.9 and winning the B-string 200 with 23.9.  Hannah Winton won the long jump with 4m96 and Ryan Webb the high jump again with 1m90. Ryan Walbridge was second in the 1500m in a time of 4m27.0 and Graeme Furley produced good points with a personal best 2.17.3 in the 800 and a win in the B-string 2000 steeplechase with 7.48.0.

Brighton, the eventual champions scored 203 on the day, Woking 175, Team Dorset 160.5, Epsom and Ewell 145.5.  The result puts Team Dorset in 12th position in this 16 team Division Two South with four teams relegated.

Well done to everyone else who took part and particularly to the good turnout of officials and helpers from the club who helped secure a very useful result.

Peter
