Southern Men’s League – Kings Park – 1 May 2010
Steve Snook reports.
Last Saturday saw Wimborne
join forces with athletes from Poole and Weymouth to compete as Team
Dorset in the first match of the Southern Men’s League at King’s Park in
Bournemouth.
The majority of athletes
in this match were from Poole, with one from Weymouth, and mostly young
… at least in comparison to the three athletes from Wimborne!
Our stalwarts, three
musketeers from the home for the athletically bewildered, played their
part in a tightly contested match, which ended up with us drawing with
Chichester for second spot, a mere 11 points away from the winners
Radley.
Our three musketeers were
Steve Snook, Glyn Davies and Dave Pearson. Steve shrugged off any
tiredness from lack of training to get team points in Hammer, 400
Hurdles, and 1500, while Glyn yet again overcame the pain barrier
turning (no pun intended) in a performance in Discus grabbing 2nd
place in the B string. However, Master of the Match, for Team Dorset,
was Dave who came away with a win in the 110 Hurdles, a sparky first leg
of the 4x100, a leap to second place in the Long Jump and a stylish, if
leisurely, 3000m steeplechase.
It goes without saying
(but I’ll say it anyway) that matches don’t run themselves and we are
always very grateful for all the support and help we get from those who
come along to the matches. On this occasion, providing much needed moral
support and, officiating were Trudi Carter and Peter Impett. Thank you
both.
Our next match in this
league is a couple of weeks away – a long trip to Plymouth on Saturday
15th May.
