The great Team Dorset fightback – 7 August 2010
Peter Impett reports from the Senior Women’s League meeting at
Salisbury.
Team Dorset took local
bragging rights in the latest round of the Southern Women’s League
Division 1 West at Salisbury on Saturday. Still smarting from a last
place in the previous round the squad mainly drawn from Wimborne and
Dorchester athletic clubs came within a whisker of second place in this
ten-team division.
Wimborne’s Trudi Carter
3m15 and Saffron Taverner 2m40 locked in maximum points in the pole
vault as did Liz Church from Poole AC 26m36 and Phoebe Beer (Dorchester
AC) 22m39 in the Senior Women’s javelin. The irrepressible Holly Butt
from Dorchester 13.2s scooted in victory in the under-15 100 metres into
a headwind and was followed by newcomer Lucy Foot in her first outing
for Wimborne, winning the B string in 14.0.
Good points were won by
Laura Tan (WAC) second in the senior high jump 1m45 and Tab Pople (DAC)
who won the B string with 1m35. Hannah Jeanes (DAC) won the senior 400m
in 63.2. Lynn Hutchings (WAC) 12m 18.4 took second place in the 3000
metres and Saffron Taverner won the B string triple jump with 8m89.
Sharon Hutchings (WAC) was placed third in the under-15s 800m. In the
under-15s Zoe Taylor (WAC) equalled her season’s best to win the B
string high jump with 1m35 and under-13 Lucy Fry from Dorchester stepped
up an age group to win the A string under-15 discus 21m32 and also won
the B string shot. Roz Hutton (WAC) was third in the hammer.
The Dorchester squad of
Holly Butt, Kirsty Wickham, Charlotte Faulkner and Anna James then
demolished the field with a 55.0 seconds relay time.
All in all, it was a big
improvement, but we do need to fill up the distance slots in the last
two matches on 4th and 5th September.
