The final
match in the Dorset County Sporthall League took place yesterday (Sunday
7th December) at the Osprey Leisure Centre in Portland.
In the under
15 age group we had 2 athletes who had been able to compete at all the
league matches and both were in good positions with Hannah in 3rd
place and Adam in 4th place in the individual standings – all
to play for in the final match.
Hannah saved
her best performances to the last match storming to wins in both the
standing long jump and shot putt and a good second place in the 2 lap
race. This was enough to move her up to an outstanding 2nd
place only 8 points behind the winner.
Adam showed
some good improvement in the shot putt with a season’s best of 8.42,
nearly 1 metre better that his first match performance. However, in this
close fought competition, Adam’s final position was 6th just
22 points behind the winner.
Both Hannah
and Adam are in the 1st year at this age group, which bodes
well for next year.
In the under
13 age group the boys only managed to field a team of 3 with many
athletes involved in other team sports on Sundays, and others injured or
ill. In the team competition the Wasps dropped from 3rd to 4th,
well behind the eventual winning team.
The girls, on
the other hand, managed to hold on to their 3rd place after
the final match. This is a great achievement given that a good
proportion of their team is still only under 11.
Well done to
everyone who competed yesterday, and in the other matches in the league,
and thanks also to all the parents for all your support.

Events
The next
Sportshall event for all age groups will be the County Championships
which are due to take place on Saturday 24th January 2009 at
Canford School. Entry forms for this are due to be available some time
shortly after Christmas.
The week
before the County Championships is the Under 11 ‘Fun in Athletics’
Sportshall competition in Torbay. Selected athletes will be contacted by
the Dorset County team manager.
The week
after the County Championships is the under 13/15 Regional Finals, also
in Torbay. Again selected athletes will be contacted by the Dorset
County team manager.
