Paula Hine & Peter Impett report on a WAC double victory.

Paula reports

Well done – we did it! We won both the girls and the boys under-13 match, an amazing double achievement.

With nearly 40 athletes available for selection we were able to field our largest and strongest team for many years. Our older more experienced under-13s scored most of the big points on the day, but they were very ably supported by a group of enthusiastic under-11s, many of whom were competing in athletics for the first time. The girls second team, consisting mainly of under-11s  are currently lying in fifth place showing the strength in depth that we now have. A great team effort for the WACers!

This result means that the boys’ team are now leading Poole AC by a narrow margin of 22 points, and the girls lead Bournemouth by 132 points. With just one league match to go, we must not get complacent, a full strength team will be required if we are to continue this winning streak.

Whilst the team effort must be applauded we should also highlight some of the individual performances that Wimborne athletes achieved. Here are just a few:

Under 13 boys

Alfie Beddow – 1st – 2 lap – 24.1 sec
Tom Stokes – 2nd – 4 lap – 49.9sec
Matthew Gates – 3rd – 4 lap – 51.3sec. and 1st – speed bounce – 76
Freddie Williams –  3rd – 6 lap – 86.8sec
Tom Bourne and Elliott Symes – 2nd – time tbc
Tom Morrisson, Ben Butcher, Fraser Vivian, Seb Flavell – 2nd circuit relay
MattYates, Alfie Beddow, Tom Bourne, Tom Stokes – 1st – 4x2 lap relay.

Under 13 girls

Charlotte Ayton – 1st – 2 lap. 23.5sec and 3rd – standing long jump – 1.89m
Pippa Hine – 1st –  4 lap – 49.7 sec. and 1st – speed bounce – 78 jumps
Bethan Burley – 2nd – 6 lap – 80.7sec. and 1st – shot putt – 9.59m
Hannah Fairchild and Beth Kingswell-Farr – 3rd Parlauf – 111.10 sec.
Charlotte Ayton, Sian Lynk, Bethan Burley, Pippa Hine – 1st – 4 x2 lap relay.
Caitlyn Hooper – 3rd standing triple jump – 5.58m
Beth Riley – 2nd – vertical jump –  42cm
Sian Lynk – 3rd – shot putt – 6.45m

In addition to the under-13 competition there was also under-15 competition taking place in which six Wimborne athletes took part. Ross Crabbe is currently winning this competition with a total of 141 points. Shaun Bishop is close behind in 3rd with 135 points. This should be an exciting competition in the last match. The following  under 15 athletes won their events on the day.

Ross Crabbe – 2 lap – long jump
Liam Winton – 4 lap, and shot putt
Ryan Long – triple jump
Dominic Flavell, Shaun Bishop , Liam Winton, Ross Crabbe – 4x2 lap relay.

Last but by no means least Ellie White was our only entry in the under-15 girls. She is currently lying 3rd overall after her win in the shot putt on Saturday.

Here's to the next match!
