Dorset SportsHall League
Match 1 – Canford School 18th
October 2008
Results Round-Up
The dust has settled, the
hearing is coming back, and the final results have now been published.
See below for links to both the individual results and the team results.
In the U15 age group,
Wimborne fielded just two athletes: Adam Stroud and Hannah Winton.
Hannah is one of the most
experienced of our SportsHall athletes and she has started her league
campaign well winning her Long Jump competition and finishing 4th
and 8th in Shot Putt and 4 Lap respectively. This gives
Hannah 6th place overall in the Grand Prix, just 9 points off
the leader – this looks like being a close fought competition this
season.
Adam, on the other hand is
new to the club and a novice in SportsHall, however, this did not show
in his performances. Adam won the 2 Lap competition and finished 4th
and 5th in Shot Putt and Triple Jump respectively, leaving
him in 5th place overall in the Grand Prix only 5 points
behind the current leader. The boys competition looks like it will be as
close as the girls one.
In the U13 age group,
Wimborne were much better represented, especially in the boys
competition.
There were enough boys for
us to enter 2 teams: the Wasps were predominantly older U13 athletes,
and the Bees were exclusively U11 athletes.
The Bees got off to a
cracking start by winning the Circuit Relay – even beating the Wasps
team. Sadly this was to prove the only 1st place of the day
for either team, however the Wasps managed to bring home some solid 2nd
and 3rd places in 4 Lap, Paarlauf, Circuit Relay, Long Jump,
Triple Jump, Vertical Jump and Shot Putt, which placed them in 3rd
place in the team competition by only 20.5 points. If we can fill all
the events next time we could be in with a shout at the top spot come
the end of the 3rd match. The Bees on the other hand, ended
up a very creditable 6th in the team competition, which is
brilliant given the age difference, and again not being able to fill all
the team places in each event.
The girls competition saw
10 teams entered and despite not attaining any individual victories on
the day, our Wasps are now in 3rd place in the team
competition, behind teams from Dorchester and Poole Runners. The girls
are about 100 points behind the current leaders, but things can change
quite dramatically over the next 2 matches.
In all age groups, if we
can get the same turn out of athletes, together with those that could
not make the first match, for the last 2 matches in the league then we
will give ourselves the best chance of winning at least one of the
trophies – lets do it!
Well done to everyone –
keep up the good work.
