Match 2 in the Dorset
Sportshall League was a little quieter than the first match, with all
teams struggling to match the athlete turnout of the first match.
However, Wimborne managed to buck this trend in the U15 age category by
fielding twice the number of athletes as we did in the first match.
Unfortunately both Adam
and Jack were slightly under par for this match – Adam recovering from a
cold and Jack had sustained a knee injury during a rugby match in the
morning. Nevertheless they put in some solid performances. After this
match Adam is now in 4th place in the individual Grand Prix a
mere 13 points off the lead – anything can happen in the last match.
Hannah was joined by
Phillippa in this match, and both athletes performed well. Hannah had a
great day and put in some excellent performances, getting 1st
place in both the 2 lap and long jump, and 2nd place in the
shot putt. This gave Hannah 1st place overall in the Grand
Prix for match 2 by just one point, but she is in 3rd place,
8 points off the lead, after 2 matches. Again everything to play for in
the final match.
The under 13 boys were so
depleted that we promoted a couple of our Bees team in to the Wasps team
to ensure maximum points for the team competition. Therefore there was
no Bees team for this match. Even so we only had seven athletes and it
looks like our challenge for the top place at the end of the three-match
series has taken a severe blow as we are now 140 points behind the
current leaders in 3rd place. The boys did come away with a
couple of 1st places: Keelan and Chris in the Paarlauf, and
Matt in the Shot Putt. We also had a couple of excellent 2nd
places: Jordan in Vertical Jump, Sam in Triple Jump, and Chris, Liam,
Keelan and Jordan in the Circuit Relay.
The under 13 girls managed
to field a larger team than the boys and remain in a solid 3rd
place in the team competition. Whilst there were no individual 1st
places there were some very good performances, notably the 4x2 Relay
squad (TC, Abbey, Kelly O'M, and Abbie) which came 2nd.
Thanks and well done
everyone.
