WAC have four South West England Champions – 11 August
Impett reports on the South West Inter Counties Champs.
11th August brought the club four regional champions in the
South West Inter Counties Championships at Exeter. Grace Copeland added
the South West under-13 1500 metres title to the Southern title that she
won the previous week with a time of 4.59.74. Callum Kennedy’s gold
medal came in the under-20s 5000m in 16m21.60 emphasising the club’s
distance running credentials. The other two gold medals came in the
vertical jumps with a win for Jack Snook in the under-20 pole vault on
3m90 and Ryan Webb clearing 1m90 in the under-17 high jump.
Snook warms up for what would be a Championship winning performance at
Hine won silver in the under-17 1500m in 5.23. Dave Pearson was second
in the seniors’ pole vault in a 3m90 personal best and Matt Curtis was
second in the under-20s with a season’s best 3m30 and won silver in the
discus 37m41. Ellie White threw a hammer personal best 24.64 for a
silver medal and Trudi Carter also took home a silver medal for her 2m90
in the pole vault. The seventh silver medal of the day went to Ross
Crabbe in the under-15s long jump with 5m51.
Burley brought home a bronze medal with her 9m81 in the shot and Elliott
Symes ran 2.33.9 for 800m for his bronze
fine performance, and a new club record, came in the under-15 300m, with
Pippa Hine recording 44.77s. The standard in this event was so high,
that despite the Wimborne AC club record having fallen, Pippa was only
placed 6th on the day!
