South West League Division 1

Peter Impett reports from Exeter on the 2nd Match - 31st May 2015

Life is tough in Division 1 of the South West League but Wimborne AC are hopeful that a, skin of the teeth, fourth place will help in the fight to stay in the division.

The programme is heavily accented in favour of the sprinters and this is where many of the points came from.  Newcomer James Guyler impressed with a 12.10s win in the under-15 100m and a third place in the 200m in 25.06. Curtis Ormerod-Taylor  weighed in with a third-placed 100m in 12.51 and fourth-placed 25.49 200 metres.  Charlotte Ayton was third in the under-15 girlsí 100m in 13.56 and took second place in the long jump on 4m93 a little down on her best.

In the under-13s Ben Butcher garnered very good points winning the 100 metres in 14.35 seconds, the long jump with 4m17 and was fourth in the high jump 1m35 just behind Eddie May on 1m40. Abbie Lovering controlled the 800 metres winning in 2m36.5 before joining Erin Thickett, Lucy Gladdis and Charlotte Laing to win the relay. Lydia Ruslingís fourth place in the high jump was a new personal best at 1m25.

Pippa Hine ran 26.96 in winning the under-17 200m and Ellie White the hammer in 44m82.  Having crashed to the ground in the hurdles Bethan Burley made a good recovery to take second place in the discus in a distance of 25.73 only seven centimetres down on the winner.  Joey Kelliher ran a very brave race, particularly as it was his first competitive race over the distance to record a second-placed 9m57.0 in the under-17 menís 3000 metres

Ryan Webb won a rain and wind affected high jump with a modest under-20 menís 1m90.  Jason Sotheran ran a third-placed 800 in 2.17.02 despite injury. Charlotte Bourne won the seniors 3000m and Nick Hunt made a major points contribution with wins in the seniorís high jump 1m90, triple jump 13m54, shot 15.81 and 200m in 22.68 seconds.
