Tom Boulton, Alex Daplyn and Ian Kennedy did their warm up together and
made a deal that if any of them won their race that day, they would
write a report for the club website. Well … here’s Alex’s report!
been raining pretty much all the summer so far, luckily the rain had
held back for the 10k race and the 1 mile, the sun did shine for bits of
the day. The 10k was partly on road and partly off road, this was the
same for the junior’s mile. The sad thing was that there were only a few
Wimborne runners at the race.
The 10k race went off first with five Wimborne vests in the race. Ian
Kennedy was the first Wimborne runner in, followed by Tim Box, Robert
Caines, Julie Gosling and Barbara Frampton.
Barbara Frampton, following a half marathon the day before, followed the
10k runners and carried the Olympic torch for the last 80 meters. All
the spectators cheered her on as she ran with the torch.
The junior’s race went shortly after the 10k race had started, there
were two Wimborne runners in this race, Tom Boulton and me. Due to the
weather there was a slight misunderstanding between the marshals and as
a result the race was shorter than usual! Tom came 2nd
overall, 2nd boy in. I was the first girl (4th
WAC results were:

113 (equal) – Robert Caines – 1:01:15
