Wimborne AC Hosts 19th Annual
Wimborne 10 Road Race Ė 20 November 2016

The morning of
Sunday 20th November saw 464 keen runners line up at the
start of Wimborne Athletic Club's flagship race, the Wimborne 10. A
10-mile road race around Pamphill and the local area, this year's
event was part of the Dorset Road Race League and marks its 19th year
of being held.
weather from Storm Angus overnight, the morning of the race brought
only cold but calm conditions.
the runners took off from just outside Pamphill First School, headed
towards White Mill and out to Shapwick before turning back along the
country roads to make the journey back up to Pamphill.
10 is one of two road races held by the running club, along with
March's Wimborne Dental 20 Mile Race. Known for an abundant
assortment of cakes as well as picturesque views of the town, the
course has proved popular with local runners.
First over the
line for this year's event was Bournemouth ACís Rob McTaggart in an
impressive time of 55:55, with Dorset Doddlersí Iain Trickett and
Bournemouth AC teammate Steve Way following close behind in second
and third with times of 56:29 and 59:05 respectively.

- Steve Way, Rob McTaggart and Iain Trickett
repeat of the Wimborne 20 results earlier in the year, first over
the line for the ladies was Bournemouth ACís Emma Dews in 1:03:06,
with teammate Nikki Sandell second in a time of 1:06:17. Clare
Martin of Purbeck Runners claimed third in 1:06:37. There was
victory for Bournemouth AC in the team results as well, with the
club winning first ladies' team while Poole Runners were the first
ladies - Nikki Sandell, Emma Dews and Clare Martin
Along with the
prizes given out for the top performances of the day in age
categories and teams, there were also spot prizes and cakes for all
of the runners to enjoy.
The next race
hosted by Wimborne AC will be springís Wimborne 20, on March 5th
2017. Entries are open now.
