Wessex Young Athletes League

 Seasonís round-up from Peter Impett

The Wessex Young Athletes League provides enjoyable competition for the under 11s as well as testing the mettle of developing athletes.  It also gives young athletes a chance to try new events in competition.

U13, U15 and U17

While not able to mix it with the biggest clubs, Wimborne is capable of punching above its weight.

In 2017 we were 11th out of 24, broadly similar to our performance in 2016, and we were the top club in the county in the League.

Perhaps unusually the male age groups were stronger than the female age groups and in match 1 the under 17 men won their match.

Again, surprisingly the under 15 girls were the weakest of the age groups.

Quadkids

After a quiet start in the Quadkids competition for the under 11ís, the team caught fire in match 2 and 3 winning at Winchester and recording the highest score of the round at Portsmouth.

The squads ended up in a combined seventh place, again well ahead of other clubs in the county despite a dip in form in the last match of the season at Ashdown.

Woody Van der Feltz broke the clubís under 11 600 metres record.

There were strong performances through the season from Harry Bunting who equalled Ben Butcherís 75 metre record and Freya Blundell who broke the howler and the 75 metre record for under 11ís.
