Iain Donnelly sees the W10
with a fresh pair of eyes.
Having joined WAC in the summer and having just started to run in
various races, l was coming into the Wimborne 10 with a fresh pair of
eyes. My job of running in the event was easy compared to Jerry and his
teams in ensuring the event actually took place at all!
Mile one.... exiting Pamphill, the sense of occasion built as the first
group of many stewards enthusiastically cheered us down past the
perimeter of Kingston Lacy. The feeling of having the home vest on was
nearly as warm as the sun as we all, at various paces made our way out
to Shapwick. The drinks stations were very welcome throughout the run
and the surprise of the folk band at Shapwick somehow got me running
with a bit of rhythm (or was that just the feeling of getting over
halfway).

On the way back to Pamphill, our team of stewards, came into their own.
No longer politely cheering they bellowed me up the last hill towards
the tea and cake at the finish line. There l met the WAC elite runners
already on their second piece of Battenburg.
One of the most refreshing experiences of joining WAC has been the
honesty in encouragement and genuine interest from all the WAC runners.
So many sports find egos getting in the way of a good time, not running.
Finally, the village that Jerry built, for me, was a welcome sight
after 1hr 9mins of running. The atmosphere generated meant the race had
the additional benefit of being a social occasion as well. Great stuff,
