Wessex Young Athletes League round 3 - Swindon 1st July 2018

Wimborne Athletic Club young athletes had a tough battle on their hands in the third Wessex Young Athletes League match at Swindon on Sunday.  Losing under 17 athletes to a Team Dorset match it was left to the youngest athletes to produce some top performances.

Harry Woods claimed three wins and three personal bests successively in the 100 in 13.5, the 200 in 28.8 and the long jump with 4m36.  His team mate in the under 13s Harry Bunting managed two wins in the B string with a 13.9s 100 and a 28.7s 200 metres both with personal bests and was second in the long jump by just two centimetres on 3m96. Leyla Nalbatoglu won the under 15 shot with a first time performance and 8m58 and Isabella Cox coped with the extreme heat better than her competitors to win the under 13 girls 800 metres in a time of 2.43.7.

There were quality second placed performances from Amy Darragh in the under 13 hurdles in 12.0, Ella Dalton in the Under 13 shot with 7m95, Akiva Bassford in the under 15 long jump and 5m49 and Joe Goodwin with 27m78 in the discus.  Amy was also second in the discus on 19m14 with Ella taking B string honours with 18m73.  Marianna Sawyer braved the 1500 under 15s in the heat for second place in a time of 5m03.3

In the Quadkids competition for the under 11s Woody Van Der Feltz was the overall winner winning three of the four disciplines outright.  His accumulated points total of 256 was 21 ahead of the second placed athlete. If you see a shock of blond hair zoom past you with a big broad grin on his face that is Woody.  He is a joy to watch. Newcomer Max Chater was fifth in a field of nearly 40 and there were spirited performances from other members of both the girls and boys teams.
