New course as Hants League wraps up  – 10 February 2018

Josh Jack reports from Wellesley Woodlands

The WAC u15Boys at Aldershot – Ollie, Josh and Ben

First up for Wimborne AC at this brand new course was Holly Nixon, who finished in a strong 9th position in a competitive field in the U15 girls. After Holly’s race the rain started to fall heavier, just in time for the U15 boys’ race, this was the only race that we had a full team in, although key runners were still missing in the form of Seth Lake (due to illness) and Charlie Davies (enjoying the mountains and snow in France). This didn’t stop the surviving runners doing well, Ben Martin continued his solid season finishing 23rd, I [Josh Jack] came 30th, and Ollie Rawles finished in 37th completing his fantastic season with yet another good result. This left the U15 boys’ team in 4th place overall narrowly missing out on a podium place for the team at the end of the season.

The next of the Wimborne athletes running was Jess Kennedy in the senior women’s race. Jess finished in 99th place in a race with some strong competition.

With the course having now been roughed up, it was the turn of Michael Johnson, who finished in a pleasing 18th place with the U17 men’s being one of the toughest and fastest age groups. Well done Michael.

One last race was to take place, and it was the senior men’s race. Mike Jurd finished in 134th place in his third Hampshire League race of the season.

Now that the league races are over for another year, our focus turns to the championship races with the Nationals at Parliament Hill Fields, the Inter-Counties near Loughborough, and the English Schools near Leeds all on the horizon. Good luck to all those running.
