Good performances at Swindon – 7 June 2015

Peter Impett reports on Wessex Meet 2

Quad kids on standby at Swindon

The result of the fixture didn’t reflect some of the really bright performances of the clubs athletes at Swindon on 7th June. The club were fifth overall.

Top performance of the day was probably Charlotte Ayton, 5m31 in the long jump.  She was also second in the 200 in 27.7. Martha Taylor won the javelin with a consistent 32m25. Izzy Kingswell-Farr enjoyed a second place in the 300 with 47.7 and the 1500 girls packed well with Hannah Slater second in the A race in a time of 5.10.90 and Beth Kingswell-Farr winning the B race in 5.11.3.

In the under-17 women Bethan Burley whacked out an 11m79 quality winner in the shot, won the 80 metres hurdles  in 12.7 and was second in the javelin on 26m49.  Sprint queen Pippa Hine won the 100 in 13.0 and the 200 in 27.0.

The under-13 girls were a little muted in their performances though the combination of Charlotte Laing, Abbie Lovering, Ave Keay and Fleur Dutton won the relay  in 58.4. Abbie Lovering was second in the 1500 in 4m01.88, Charlotte Laing was second in 14.4, the same time being given to Fleur Dutton who was third in the A-string and Lydia Rusling was second in the high jump and 1m20.

The boys had a more productive day. In the under-13s Max Meadwell won the under-13s 1500 in 4.56.3 backed up by B-string winner Charlie Davies 5m21.3.  Ben Butcher won the 75 hurdles in a time of 14.6 with Seb Flavell winning the B-string and 16.90. Toby Hiller won the long jump with 4m58, Ben Butcher was second in the high jump 1m35, the same height as Eddie May who won the B-string.

James Guyler won the under-15 100 in 12.1 and was second in the 200 on 24.4 by a nose. It was good to see Elliott Symes in action with a fine second place in the 800 and a time of 2.19.0. Liam Murphy-Parry achieved a similar result in the 1500 and a time of 4.44.7. Rob Hughes was second in the 80 metre hurdles in 15 seconds, Ben Holland in the long jump 4m74 and Matty Effick in the javelin on 26m08.

Edward Hall and Isabella Cox were the club’s leading scorers in the Quadkids event.

The team performed well and but for some empty slots would have been much higher up the table.
