Smells like team spirit

Wimborne Athletic Club’s reputation in track and field is on the up again thanks to some very hard working team managers. On Sunday in the Wessex League the club were second to host club Camberley AC  at the Woking track.

Bethan Burley scored maximum points winning all three of her events, the 70 metre hurdles 12.30, Shot 7m82 and Javelin 23.51 as well as joining Pippa Hine, Sian Lynk and Grace Copeland to win the relay in 59.1. Pippa Hine won the long jump with a personal best 4m10 and was second in the 100m in 13.8 and the 200 28.1. Grace Copeland ran away from the field in the 1200 in 4.04.2, Lilly Tozer was second in the high jump 1m25 and there were ‘B string’ wins for Sian Lynk in the shot 6m07 and Becky Kent 3m99 in the long jump. The under-13 girls won the only age group not dominated by Camberley.

Abbie Hine won the under-15 1500 in 5m08.3 having broken the club record the previous day at the South West Schools at Exeter when she went sub-5 minutes for the first time. Maddie Williams won the ‘B string’ in 5m28.5. Kelly Snook was second in the 75m hurdles in 13.60. At under-17 level Charlotte Bourne was second in the 1500m 5.43.2 with Rebecca Skeats winning the ‘B’ string in 6.02.0.

In the under-13 boys Alfie Beddow was the only winner with his 25m91 javelin but Tom Bourne was second in the 800m in 2.26.9 and the discus 14m52 and Lucas Noble was also second in the 75m hurdles 15.50 and the high jump 1m30.

Piers Copeland won the under-15 1500m in 4.47.3 and Ryan Long the discus with 25m.77.  Ryan was also second in the 80m hurdles with 13.4s. Liam Winton helped Ryan to maximum points in the discus with a 16m61 ‘B string’ win. Jason Sotheran’s second place 2.16.1 showed that he is returning to fitness and there were other second places for Fraser Read in the 400m 59.8, Ross Crabbe 4m55 in the long jump and Liam Winton in the shot 8m07. Christian Flavell was second in the under-17 high jump with 1m35 on a day when his speciality pole vault and 400 hurdles were not on the card.

Provisional results are:
