Congratulations to Emily Shaw the new Wimborne AC club record holder over 800m for under-17 women, also taking the women’s overall record in the process. Emily and Maddy Johnson travelled down together to take part in the British Milers Club regional meeting at Exeter on 25 June. The BMC meetings are a great place for middle distance athletes to improve on their personal bests as each race has a pace runner. They were placed in the ‘A’ race and there were fine runs from both of them, claiming first (Emily in 2:12.68) and third place (Maddy in 2:17.86) in a field of 10 runners.
Breaking a female Wimborne AC middle distance club record is a particularly notable achievement as the bar had been set so high by Grace Copeland. Until these record fell Grace held every record over 800, 1200, 1500 and 3000 meters (except steeplechase and race walk) from the under-13 age-group upwards!
Maddy Johnson’s race was a respectable one too, seeing her just outside her season’s best.
