
A trip to Abingdon was always going to be a difficult start to the Wessex Young Athletes League season but the Quadkids surpassed all expectations to win their event. Toby Smith scored very heavily in the Vortex breaking his own club record for the second time before winning the event overall with 243 points, Ezra Haydon was second with 213 and Henri Elliot -Smith third with 201. Jasmine Foster won the girls event with 220 points and other team members contributed massively to Wimborne’s winning total.

In the league match Wimborne struggled because of low numbers of athletes. Indeed there were no under 17 boys and only one under 17 girl in a generally thin competition. The quality in the younger age groups was still there.
Lani Moore and Eva Rourke produced good points in the under 13 events. Lani won the 200 metres in 27.49 and the 70 hurdles in 12.10 with a second place in the 100 metres in 13.80. Eva won the B string hurdles in 13.30 and was second in the B string 100 and 200. Lila Richards was second in the long jump 3m76 with Laila Baines winning the B string with 3m49. Maisie Robbins was second in the high jump with 1m23 and won the shot with 7m33 ably supported with a winning 7m06 in the B string from Tilly Pretty.
Ava Elliott-Smith winning under 15 100 metres time of 12.80 was actually beaten by B string winner Rosie Gollings’s 12.70. Ava turned the power on again to win the 200 in 26.90 while Rosie took second place in the 300 metres with 42.90. Rosie and Mila Desborough took maximum points in the long jump 4m85 and 4.51 respectively. Mila then cruised the javelin with a distance of 38m45 some twelve and a half metres ahead of the second placed athlete. Olivia Jones won the under 17 shot 9m67 and was second in the discus 21m02 and the javelin 26m00.
For the under 15 boys Elliott Trickey’s 5m50 in the long jump was the stand out moment ably backed up by B string winner Lucas Joliffe 4m90. Elliott was also second in the 300 metres in 40.00seconds. In the under 13 boys Zac Johnson won the shot with 7m84. Harry Lewis was second in the 800 metres with 2.39.30s. with Josh Gollings winning the B string with 2.48.90.
