Sundays opening Wessex Young Athletes meeting at Kings Park produced lots of top quality performances for junior club athletes.
The under 13s did much of the points scoring. Finlay Carvell was in fine form winning the 100 in 13.6 and the A string 200 in 28.1. Paradoxically his B string partner Harry Roscoe won his race in 28.00 dead. Lucas Joliffe 4m24 and Elliott Trickey 3m80 dominated the long jump and Rory Connolly won the javelin with 25m44. In the girl’s events Ava Elliott-Smith won the 100 metres in 14.00 and the long jump with 4m26. Lavender West won the 800 metres in 2.41.7. Olivia Jones had a busy day winning the shot with 7m85 and was second in the hurdles 12.70 where Esther Brooks won the B string 13.2. Alissa Irvine’s second placed 1m20 in the high jump was one of many personal bests on the day.
Things were quieter for the under 15s where Charlie Cleall won the 300 metres in 43.4 and a busy Lucy Lucas won her 100 metres in 13.30, the shot with 9m97 and was second in the 200 metres with 27.2.
More athletes were active in the under 17s where Harry Bunting won the 200 metres in 24.0 and was second in the 400 in 53.3. The Williams twins swept the board in the high jump with Jack 1m70 and Tom 1m60 both recording personal bests. Jake Roberts weighed in with a winning 11m14 shot and a 40m70 javelin.
Wimborne’s under 11 girls were second in the Quadkids with Bethan Cassidy third and Mila Desborough fourth overall in a field of fifty. Mila was second in the Vortex with 29.71 ahead of what is usually Bethan’s strongest event where she recorded 27m71. Bethan compensated by winning the long jump with 3m49. For the boys, William Roscoe was best place in 15th position.
