Wimborne’s young athletes came a creditable third behind big guns Swindon and Basingstoke in the match at Down Grange, Basingstoke on April 28th. The weather was unhelpful though it got a bit brighter as the afternoon progressed.
Sam John won the Under 15 200 metres in 24.7 and the 300 in 39.1. Harry Ryan won his favoured 80 metre hurdles in 11.7 before taking second place in the 100 metres in 12.2. In the under 17s James Froud also took second place in 12,2 with Charlie Cleall running 24.3 for the 200 and 55.7 for the 400 with a second place in each.
Mila Desborough won the under 13s javelin with an impressive 35 metres and also won the long jump with 4m03. Rosie Gollings comfortably won the 800 metres in 2.41.8. The under 15 girls were on a mission to score points with Kayla Robbins winning the high jump with 1m40 despite injury problems. Ava Elliott-Smith is also returning from injury but recorded a 13.3 in the 100 metres for second place and winning the B string 200 in 28.3. Iris Jones was second in the 300 metres in 46.0 and Olivia Jones won the shot with 7m85. For the under 17s Lucy Lucas was second in the 100 meters in 13.3 but won the 200 in 27.2.
The under 11 Quadkids competitors had a relatively quiet day but still came fourth overall
