Piers Copeland became the first Wimborne AC athlete to run sub-4 minute mile pace over 1500m when he recorded 3:39.50 in Rehlingen, Germany over the weekend. He featured in an invitational international meeting held near Hamburg and produced his very best.
In a quality field, made up of athletes from across Europe and Africa (with Piers the sole Brit), every one of the 16 other competitors lined up on the start line with a faster PB than Piers. No livestream was available for UK viewers, and we missed a classic. Piers’ 3:39.50 was a new PB (by 2 seconds) and he finished first under-23 and just 2 seconds behind the race winner. Piers is currently ranked No. 1 under-23 in the UK and No. 2 under-23 in Europe over 1500m.
