Wimborne AC take part in a number of leagues throughout the year, with both team and individual competitions. These include:
Dorset Road Race League
Dorset County Championships
Upton House Summer series
Dorset Road Race League
Wimborne AC take part in the Dorset Road Race League (RRL). There are now 12 races per year. Expect 6 shortish races (less than 10 miles), 5 races of 10 miles / half marathons and one long race.
They also try (with varying success) to spread them across the county and across the whole year. The men and ladies compete as separate teams rather than a mixed team. For a league event we need 5 men to make up a men’s team but only 3 ladies to make up a team. The overall team scores at the end of the season are based on the best 7 out of 12 races.
The Dorset RRL is split into two divisions with the top 7 men’s and women’s team forming the top divisions and the other teams forming Division 2. There will be promotion and relegation at the end of the year with Division 1’s bottom club being replaced by the Division 2 champions.
There’s also a league for individuals based on the same 12 races and again the final positions are based on the best 7 out of the possible 12 races. That means if you want to do well in the league you have to finish at least 7 of the races. Also you will need to finish in all 12 races to win a Fidelity Award.
Dorset County Championships
Each year the Dorset county championships (DCC) consists of one race selected at each of 10k, 10 miles, half marathon and marathon to be the county championship race. To qualify to enter the championship you have to either have been born in the county, lived here for 9 months or more or be stationed here in the services. Awards are made to the top 3 male and females for seniors and veterans.
Other Road Running Leagues
The Upton House Summer series consists of 6 races on Friday evenings at Upton House. These are all around 5 k and take place between May and August.
