Sprints (Short)

Short sprints include any distance up to and including 200m and training takes place throughout the year. We tend to split our training into 3 ‘seasons’ – Winter, Spring and Summer. With few competitions, winter training is used to build strength and stamina, without loosing too much speed. During spring training, there is the opportunity for indoor competition, both open and championships, and we start to focus less on stamina and more on speed. Our summer training tends to be competition focussed and we look to improve our speed still further.

Long sprints include any distance between 200m and 400m, with or without hurdles. training takes place throughout the year. We split our training into 3 ‘seasons’ – Winter, Spring and Summer. Winter training is used to build strength and stamina, whilst building endurance over distance the emphasis is maintaining speed over the longer distance. During spring training, there is the opportunity for indoor competition, both open and championships. Long sprints involves experiencing lactic and isn’t for everyone, add hurdles and you have some of the toughest track events going. Summer training tends to be competition focussed and we look to build speed, endurance and hurdling in equal measure. Finally if you are an 800 or 1500 athlete you can join us for tactical or finishing speed.
