Throws cover the 4 Olympic throws, namely Javelin, Discus, Shot and Hammer and we aim to provide training and coaching throughout the year.
Throws events, by their nature , have an element of risk, so we take special care to ensure that in all our Throws training, the athletes health and safety is of paramount importance. All Training is conducted with a primary focus of minimising the possibility of injury whilst developing the athlete ‘at their pace’ so that they can become the best athlete they can and at the same time having fun doing it!

- POST VACANT (Coaching Assistant)*
*If you are interested in filling any vacant post and can support one session a week Wimborne Athletic Club will provide you with the training for the role.
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Our Throws training is broken down into ‘seasons’. Winter Training, Pre-season Training (Spring) and Competition Training (Summer). Each ‘season’ is essential in the approach to athletics training as each complements the other.
Winter Training is where we put in the ground work for developing and improving the athletes strength and conditioning. This is where the athlete build the basis for improvements in Competition ‘season’ (Summer)
Pre-Season Training is where we alter focus from strength and conditioning to working on, event specific, throwing techniques. This will channel those winter gains in strength and conditioning into re-embedding, old techniques and developing and improving new throwing techniques with the aim of improving on past competition results.
Competition ‘season’ is where focused training has to make way for Competition. So with the limited opportunities available, we continue to focus on technique improvement, preparing for Competition and addressing issue that arise during Competition and making adjustments to Competition approach.
