Report by Sarah Lathbury

The 2026 racing year got off to a fantastic start under sunny blue skies and crisp winter temperatures at the Broadstone Quarter Marathon — the opening race of the Dorset Road Race League. With perfect winter conditions, runners were treated to a challenging course that tested stamina and determination from start to finish.
The course featured two tough climbs — the first was Gravel Hill, followed by the climb up Dunyeats Road — both of which had to be tackled twice, making this early-season race a real test of fitness. Despite the hills and undulating terrain, the event drew a strong field, with runners rising to the challenge and embracing the New Year with determination and enthusiasm.
Wimborne AC was proudly well represented, with a total of 34 club members completing the race. Standout performances included Susie Palmer, who was first female finisher for the club, and Louis Verdi, who led the Wimborne men’s team. Across the field, Wimborne runners tackled the course with grit, pacing themselves on the climbs and finishing strongly, demonstrating both depth and team spirit. The support between clubmates was evident, with cheers and encouragement helping everyone conquer the hills and complete the course successfully.
